Tuesday

We finished our draft presentation and looked at it on the big screen. we noticed a lot of errors and corrected them. I didn't make the graphs font size big enough so I had to redo them. I also forgot the axis titles. I think our poster looks good now.

Monday

After Breakfast Zach and I worked on our presentation. I put in the last of the data into excel. After that I started to make graphs and put in trendlines. its cool to see the data that you went out into the field to get and see it on the computer.

Sunday

At 1:30 a large group of us went our to San Vito which is a town right down the mountain from us. At San Vito we found a bakery shop and I got a cone with a Carmel filling of sorts and a powdered sugar pastry. We also found an ice cream shop and I got a mango shake which is the best I've ever had. It pains me that I may not be able to visit that shop maybe ever. I explored the town alone for around an hour and didn't find to much because most of the shops were closed. we ended the night eating a lilliana's pizzeria.

Saturday

After breakfast me and Zach heads out to the waterfall to look at abandoned pasture canopy gaps. we found three gaps along the way and that concluded our data seeking phase. We headed back to the station and I put the data into the computer. after that we didn't do anything because our legs were hurting so bad because of all the hiking these past four days. It wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't so much elevation change.

Friday

The day started out at 8:30 when we left the botanical garden. We went on the Melissa trail to look a canopy gaps in pasture lands. we only saw three of them and we need at least five. We followed the Melissa trail to the primary forest and got six canopy gaps recorded. We followed the Wilson trail to the Ridge trail and back to the station. The whole trip took six hours and according to Zach's phone it was five miles but I think it was more than that. After we got back I put the data into the excel spreadsheet and didn't do much else after that.

Thursday

After a brisk shower and a wonderful breakfast Zach and I went out into the selectively cut primary forest located along the Rio Java trail. We located 3 open canopy sites and recorded the data from each of them. about an hour or two into it our Mentor and forestry instructor Michael came up to us with another mentor and her students. The other mentor broke a crown and they wanted Zach and I to go with the other students because they seen a Mountain Lion yesterday and were scared to go alone on the trail. This lasted until lunch time. After lunch Michael, Zach and I went out into the selectively cut primary forest to record two more canopy gaps. we had to leave early due to clouds because my digital program for canopy coverage percentage doesn't work with cloud coverage. After this I went into the lab to work on the data. After dinner we went to the reception for a cultural exchange. The Panama people shared two dances and a couple stories. Two other students also shared a song and

Wednesday

After breakfast Michael Price, Zach, and me went to look at canopy gaps in the secondary and primary forests. The trees we were looking at mostly we're cecropia and the banana tree. We hiked a total of 6 miles or 14,000 steps through the the multiple trails.
