Thursday

After a brisk shower and a wonderful breakfast Zach and I went out into the selectively cut primary forest located along the Rio Java trail. We located 3 open canopy sites and recorded the data from each of them. about an hour or two into it our Mentor and forestry instructor Michael came up to us with another mentor and her students. The other mentor broke a crown and they wanted Zach and I to go with the other students because they seen a Mountain Lion yesterday and were scared to go alone on the trail. This lasted until lunch time. After lunch Michael, Zach and I went out into the selectively cut primary forest to record two more canopy gaps. we had to leave early due to clouds because my digital program for canopy coverage percentage doesn't work with cloud coverage. After this I went into the lab to work on the data. After dinner we went to the reception for a cultural exchange. The Panama people shared two dances and a couple stories. Two other students also shared a song and a swan dance.
